‘Common Learning’ Strands

IPE Early Years Event

The Early Years IPE provision will be undertaken by students in their first year of the following courses; Medicine, Midwifery, Nursing (3 branches), Radiography (2 branches), Speech and Language Therapy and Dentistry. The sessions are focussed on common learning activities, to meet specific areas of common need and common standards. These include infection control, MRSA and handwashing procedures, as well as aspects of teamworking. The approach we are taking is multiprofessional, in that we are expecting the different disciplines to work together with a specific task as a focus for their activities. The programme is run over two half days, one week apart, at the beginning of the academic year. The course is organised around a symposium after which the students break into small groups to work on a presentation task relating to the symposium theme. The groups are then required to give the presentation to other groups and the facilitators. And the closing element is final, whole group, plenary session.
