Selected
Interprofessional Experiences, SIEs
SIEs are Selected Interprofessional
Experiences (previously called Interprofessional Special Study
Modules, ISSMs). They consist of 6 contact hours in lectures
and 5 hours of self-directed study. During the middle years these
take place over 2 weeks, but in the final years may extend over
4 weeks. SIEs form an essential experience for healthcare or
social work students from both City and Queen Mary Universities,
as well as the University of East London. They provide an opportunity
for students to explore areas of specific interest in small interprofessional
groups.
Our current
SIE's include:
Complementary
Therapy
Counselling
in Action
SIE's being
developed include:
Telemedicine
End of Life Care
Child Protection
Learning outcomes
from SIE’s
All SIE’s will
have outcomes specifically related to the specialist area of
the SIE.
The generic outcomes
are as follows -
• Be able to work
and collaborate effectively as a member of a group or team
• Be able to
communicate information clearly and accurately to interprofessional
colleagues using appropriate communication techniques.
• Understand
the different roles and responsibilities, values and professional
accountability of health and social care workers in meeting the
needs of patients and clients.
If you are a
member of staff interested in designing a new SIE, please
complete the SIE
Framework Document and return it to Ellie Moe, Academic
Administrator for IPE.
