About the IPE Team

Dr Danë Goodsman
Senior Lecturer for IPE

I joined City and Queen Mary as a Senior Lecturer in March ’05 to support Interprofessional Education for the Strategic Alliance.

My first degree and Ph.D. are in Education and I have worked in all education sectors since the early 1970’s - including schools, colleges of F.E and Universities. I have been based specifically in Medical Education since 1992, and have considerable experience working at both post and undergraduate levels. Prior to coming to City and Queen Mary I had just completed a post as Curriculum Project Manager for the Royal College of Surgeons of England, where I developed an electronic, hypertext-database, process which underpinned the new curricular of the College’s nine surgical specialties. And before that I was a Senior Lecturer and Education Advisor to Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Schools of Medicine and Dentistry.

My other main areas of interest are communication skills, teacher education, curriculum development, qualitative research and all aspects of healthcare education generally. I have been a member of the BMA Board of Medical Education for the past seven years and have often been invited to talk at, or run, workshops on medical education and its related areas.

Since coming into post here at City and Queen Mary I have been instrumental in creating the three ‘Common Learning’ strands for interprofessional education, the first two of which have been run on a pilot basis, in preparation for full roll out next academic year.

I am really enjoying the challenge of progressing the IPE agenda here at City and Queen Mary. I feel that the potential of us all learning and working together really effectively, will have benefit not only for patients, but also for each of us personally, as professionals, in whatever field we practice.
